Where almost every thermal scope magnifies by enlarging the pixels it already captured, a Leap changes magnification through the glass itself, so the image holds together as you zoom in rather than falling apart.

Continuous optical zoom is what separates the Leap line
Most thermal scopes zoom digitally. The sensor captures a fixed number of pixels, and magnifying just enlarges those pixels on the screen — which is why pushing the zoom on a typical thermal turns a crisp animal into a soft blob. You are not seeing more detail; you are seeing the same detail, bigger.
A Leap moves the glass instead. Magnification changes optically, the way it does on a daytime rifle scope, so the picture stays sharp across the zoom range rather than degrading the further you push it. Every Leap runs an F0.9 lens — a fast aperture that gathers more thermal energy than a slower one, which is what a thermal sensor has to work with in the first place. Every model carries an integrated laser rangefinder reading to 1,312 yards, feeding an onboard ballistic calculator that turns that distance into a holdover without a subscription or a phone in the loop.
Every model also uses the same fine 0.35 MOA reticle, which keeps the aiming point from covering the animal at distance, and the same durability standards: IP67 sealing, a 1,000 g shock rating, and a recoil rating of 6,000 joules. The RIX Optics app connects over Wi-Fi for profiles and footage on any of them.
The lineup runs from the L3R to the L12R
Three models, ordered by capability. The L3R is the entry point, on a 384 sensor behind a 35 mm lens. The L6R steps up to a 640 sensor and a 50 mm lens, which is the combination most hunters end up on. The L12R tops the series with a 1280 sensor behind 60 mm of glass, for identifying game at the far edge of open country. Sensor climbs first, lens second, and the platform underneath does not change.

RIX splits its rifle scopes by what they are built to do. The Storm line is the value side — capable optics at mid-range distances, magnified digitally rather than optically. The Leap is the precision side, where the optical zoom, the fast glass and the fine reticle are all aimed at making a confident identification further out. The DBH line sits above both as the specialist top end.
Put simply: a Storm is the sensible buy if your shots are close and your budget is the constraint. A Leap is the buy if what you need is to be sure of what you are looking at before you take the shot.

And if you need something to scan with rather than shoot through, a handheld does that job better than any rifle scope will.
