What the T-CROW Magnetic USB-C Is—and What It Is Not

The XSPECTER T-CROW is a motorized two-axis carrier for compatible thermal imaging cameras, night vision devices and other suitable handheld optics. The current system provides a 360-degree pan range and approximately 55 degrees of tilt, allowing the attached optic to scan an area while you control its direction remotely.

The Magnetic USB-C configuration sold by Thermal Bros combines an angle-adjustable magnetic base, USB-C output for a compatible handheld, third stabilizing foot and the current metal-gear T-CROW platform.

It is not a thermal camera. The T-CROW does not contain a thermal sensor and does not improve the sensor resolution, detection range or image quality of the optic mounted to it.

It does not automatically control every function of your optic. The T-CROW controls where the optic points. Zoom, focus, color palettes, recording and other camera functions depend on the attached device and its own controls or supported app.

It does not automatically create a live video feed. If you want to watch the thermal image on a phone or tablet, the attached optic must provide a compatible streaming method.

How the System Works

1. Place the T-CROW on a clean, suitable ferrous steel mounting surface while the vehicle is stationary.
2. Adjust and secure the magnetic mounting system and stabilizing third foot.
3. Attach a compatible thermal or night vision handheld to the camera adapter.
4. Check the balance and make sure the optic, lens, eyecup, focus ring and cables have enough clearance for movement.
5. Connect the T-CROW to the Remote Control 2.0 or supported XSPECTER app.
6. If desired, connect the USB-C output to a compatible handheld after verifying the optic's power requirements.

Compatibility: Check These Six Things Before Ordering

The T-CROW is designed to work with a wide range of thermal imaging and night vision handhelds, but that does not mean every device will work correctly in every configuration. Verify the complete setup before buying.

1. Camera attachment: confirm that your exact optic can attach securely to the supplied camera adapter. Do not assume that every handheld with a tripod thread will balance correctly on the carrier.
2. Total installed weight: the current metal-gear T-CROW is listed for a maximum payload of approximately 7.7 lb (3.5 kg). Count the optic, adapter, USB-C cable and any other attached accessories in the total.
3. Movement clearance: make sure the objective lens, eyecup, focus ring, buttons and cables will not strike the carrier or mounting surface during movement.
4. USB-C compatibility: having a USB-C connector does not automatically mean the optic and T-CROW are electrically compatible. Confirm voltage, current, charging behavior, cable requirements and whether the optic can operate normally while receiving external power.
5. Live-video support: if you want to view the image on a phone or tablet, confirm that your optic supports a compatible video stream. The T-CROW moves the camera; it does not add video streaming to an optic that lacks it.
6. Vehicle roof material: the Magnetic USB-C configuration requires a suitable ferrous steel surface. The magnets will not attach to aluminum, fiberglass, carbon fiber, plastic or other non-magnetic body panels.

The Magnetic USB-C configuration uses an angle-adjustable magnetic base designed for suitable ferrous steel surfaces. The adjustable mounting system helps the carrier sit correctly on suitable vehicle surfaces that are not perfectly horizontal.

Do not assume every vehicle roof is magnetic. Many modern vehicles use aluminum, composite, fiberglass or other non-ferrous panels. Test and verify the intended mounting surface before relying on a magnetic installation.

Prepare the Mounting Surface

Before installation, make sure the mounting surface and magnetic feet are clean and free of dirt, grit, moisture and other contamination. Foreign material between the magnet and vehicle can reduce holding performance and can damage the vehicle finish.

After positioning the system, verify the attachment before operation. Recheck the mounting system whenever the T-CROW is removed and reinstalled.

USB-C Camera Power

This Thermal Bros configuration includes USB-C output for a compatible attached handheld. That can reduce dependence on the optic's internal battery during longer observation sessions.

Remote and App Control
